The Association's Investigations in to the Rail Renewal

You will find the summaries of the investigations in the following pages:

Pending the Full Feasibility Study's Stage II (Engineering) findings, we forecast that the following works will be necessary to create the renewed railway:

New Junctions at Both Ends of the Line
Building of 18 Major and Minor Bridges and the Refurbishment of 18 more
Provision of Eleven Railway Stations
Construction of up to Five Level-Crossings
Provision of Signalling

Again, pending the results of the business case, we make a rough estimate of the cost of constructing the line - including the purchase or lease of land and legal costs - of £90 to £100 million.

Works Necessary to Create the Renewed Railway

'THE reinstatement of the former railway between Cambridge and Sudbury is feasible in engineering terms without recourse to any operation which would be considered non-standard. There are a number of locations along the route at which considerable investment will be required to overcome obstacles, but in all identified locations solutions are available.' - Quote from the Pre-Feasibility
